City of Novato issued the following announcement on Nov. 6.
On Friday, November 6, 2020 at 3pm, the Novato City Council held a closed session with legal counsel to discuss next steps regarding Marin County’s potential purchase of Inn Marin as part of the Homekey Program. Prior to adjourning to closed session, Council heard comments from several community members and recessed to deliberate in closed session for over 90 minutes. Upon returning to open session, council issued the following statement:
“The Council, staff and community have many unanswered questions regarding the Homekey proposal. The Council urges the Board of Supervisors to hold community workshops as soon as possible and before the Board takes any final action.
In addition, the Council has directed the City Attorney to ascertain additional facts before the Council decides its next steps. And the Council is continuing its closed session to November 10. At the Council’s November 10 meeting, County representatives will be in attendance to answer additional questions.”
During their open session meeting on Tuesday, November 10, the Council will review and consider options on whether to take a formal position on behalf of the City about this item. At this time, no determination on what action, if any, the Council may take, has been decided as the Council has not yet determined next steps. If at any point, the City learns from the County that the proposed project has been permanently withdrawn from consideration, then subsequent Council agenda items relating to the project will not occur.
The following City Council meetings have been scheduled to further discuss and consider potential next steps:
- City Council Meeting - Open Session on Tuesday, November 10 at 6pm (Please note that the Inn Marin item will be heard no earlier than 7:30pm.)
- City Council Meeting - Closed Session on Tuesday, November 10 upon adjournment of the open session
